I love tomatoes …I especially enjoy eating the home grown tomatoes from our little backyard garden. When the fruit fully ripens on the vine (yes, they are technically considered fruit, not vegetables), the flavor is so intense that there is no comparison to the ones you buy at the supermarket.
However, I am a certifiable fool for the unripened green tomatoes that you see here …when they are miraculously transformed into the Fried Green Tomatoes that are the stuff of yee-haw culinary legend.
My wife slices each green tomato very carefully and then dusts each precious slice in her super-secret corn meal coating. Now for the best part …out comes that big heavy cast iron frying pan. This is where all that southern-fried magic happens, when the tomato slices start to sizzle briskly in the pan. Home cooked eating just doesn’t get any better than this!
