Greening Trees at Harrison Wright Falls by

When I was at Harrison Wright waterfall about a year ago, there was a huge amount of fallen timber piled high around the plunge pool here. Today, thanks to a stronger than normal spring runoff, most of the debris has been transported somewhere downstream. Mother nature has done a great job of spring cleaning below the falls.

The trees surround the area were just starting to show their new spring foliage this trip. That is adding a welcome splash of seasonal color to this beautiful spot.

Ricketts Glen State Park is located beside the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, about half way between the cities of Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.

Harrison Wright is the third waterfall up the Falls Trail, about one and a half miles from the parking area on RT-118.

This photo was captured on May 10th, 2011, during a “meet & shoot” hike through Ricketts Glen State Park with RedBubblers Tim Devine and Kevin Hart.

This image was captured with a Canon 10D DSLR, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the widest focal length of 17mm. The aperture was set to f/22. Three bracketed exposures were shot with shutter speeds of .3, .7 and 1 second at ISO 100. The exposures were processed in Photomatix Pro 3.2 to reveal the full range of dynamic range in this HDR photo. A Manfrotto 550B tripod and 222 pistol grip head were used.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

This is beautiful!! I didn’t get any wide views of Harrison Wright for whatever reason, but this is a really beautiful shot! Even with the hot spot in the falls, the view overall is quite gentle and even. Nice colors in the frame! Not too bold, not too shy!

  • Thank you very kindly, Kevin! HW was on my list of “must gets”, since I didn’t get down to this section of the trail last time. The sun on the crest of the falls concerned me, but fortunately it didn’t blow out. I had to go HDR here …good thing I was bracketing my shots very carefully. Even the breeze cooperated with me. It was blowing the mist off to the right, but didn’t disturb the foliage on the left. It’s actually the first time I didn’t get wet shooting this one.

    Kindest regards,

    Gene

The waterfall is very beautiful. Then I how the path of trees keep going until they are all the way out of view.

  • Thank you so kindly, Wanda! I’m really glad you like the way the trees fade into the distance behind the waterfall. Much appreciated!

    Best wishes,

    Gene
