This is it, the last of my series of photographs from Watkins Glen that were captured just after a violent thunderstorm had ended in the gorge. This shot was captured in August of 2007, but due to an image file mixup, it had never been seen until very recently.
Minnehaha Falls is shown here, with just a hint of the great Cavern Cascade waterfall peeking through the canyon walls in the background. I must admit that I was so excited by the sudden appearance of the bright sun rays in the gorge that I was running around like a crazy man with a big tripod and camera. I knew I would only have a few minutes to catch as many different angles as I could before the miracle light faded away. Fortunately, the storm had chased away all of the tourists, leaving me and my wife alone with this unforgettable vision to record.

Watkins Glen State Park is located at the southern tip of Seneca Lake, in Watkins Glen, New York, USA. This beautiful gorge can be found in the “Finger Lakes” region, in the southwestern part of the state.
This photograph was captured with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens on a Canon EOS 10D DSLR body. The aperture was f/8, ISO 400. Shutter speed was 1/20th second at the 25mm focal length. The camera & Lens were mounted on a Manfrotto tripod with a Manfrotto “joystick” ball head.
The image has been leveled and cropped slightly, but is otherwise untouched, just as the lens saw the scene. The rays are 100% natural, no enhancement at all.
