The Falls Trail gently meanders through this relatively flat section along Kitchen Creek, at the lower end of the gorge in Ricketts Glen. This area, near the beginning of our hike, belies the rough, steep terrain to come a little farther ahead. A few previous footprints were present to define the pathway through the snow covered area.
The beautiful blue sky was punctuated by big billowy white clouds overhead. The azure hues of the sky were highlighting the snow on the ground in a lovely way. Eastern hemlock and pine trees provided a wonderful shade of green to this wintry scene.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, north eastern Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
This photo was taken on the morning of March 2nd, 2011 on a winter hike with Kevin Hart. It was shot handheld with a Canon EOS 10D DSLR camera, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens at the 17mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/90th sec at f/4. The camera’s ISO was set to 800.
