When I woke up on Monday morning, this is the view I saw outside my door. I looked up High Street and all I could see was SNOW.

The city of Williamsport on February 20th, 2011 in north central Pennsylvania, USA.

This image was captured handheld with a Canon EOS 10D camera body through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L zoom lens, at the 40mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/2000th second at f/4. The camera’s ISO was set to 400.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

Looks quiet and peaceful, Gene. Great frame for that tree! Did you have to fiddle with the WB to get the snow so beautifully white?

  • Thanks, Jan! Nope, this one is untouched, no tweeking of the White balance …just a little bit of cropping. This is just what I saw as I stuck my head out the door at 8:30am. It was a real surprise. Our forecast was for 1 to 3 inches. Yea, right!

    Kindest regards,

    Gene

So gorgeous! I love the framing!

  • Thanks a lot, Tammy! Much appreciated!

Did you get any snow there? Our temps are in the single digits again.

    All my best,

Lovely, Gene. Are we saying ‘Uncle’ yet?

  • Uncle, Uncle, UNCLE!!!! Yes, I’ve tried my best to enjoy every winter day …but my limit has been reached. It hit 60 degrees here on Saturday, and then this! We actually saw our lawn, brown as it was, but nearly snow free on Sunday.

I am really ready for spring, right now. Phil the groundhog had better come through for us this year. He promised, spring is just around the corner!

    Kindest winter’s end wishes,

    Gene

Sigh. Back to winter again……pretty hard to take with the weather we had late last week. Cool shot Gene!

  • Thanks! You are sooo right, Tim! I was fine with the winter weather, until we hit 60F on Saturday. We’re going down to 8 degrees again tonight. Ouch!

    Best regards,

Great framing Gene. Looks really cold.

  • Thanks, Joy! Actually, it wasn’t really that cold, it was just below freezing. That is considered quite comfortably at this time of year for our area. At least, there was no wind, so it didn’t feel that bad outside.

    Best wishes,

    Gene
