Pretty Balloons, All In A Row by

627 Views as of May 21st, 2013

The recently launched balloons were lining up in such an interesting way. I moved all around the field until I was able find just the right spot to capture this particular point of view.

This image was captured at 6:18pm on September 18th, 2010. I was enjoying the activities at the Lycoming Rotary Hot Air Balloon Festival, in north central Pennsylvania, USA.

The Rotary Club of Lycoming County presented this weekend event at the Lycoming County Fairgrounds in Hughesville, Pennsylvania, USA.

This image was shot with a Canon EOS 10D DSLR camera, with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM professional Ultra-Wide Angle lens at the 35mm focal length. The camera’s ISO was set to 100 with an aperture of f/9.5 and shutter speed of 1/180th second. A Monfrotto tripod and “Pistop Grip” ball head were used. Captured in Camera RAW format.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

Wow Gene, incredible composition! I thought kids are hard to pose, but I would have to say these are harder! ;-) In all seriousness, spectacular PoV! Instant Fav!

  • Thank you so kindly, Tim! There was a distinct wind direction shift at a certain altitude that was carrying the highest two balloons off to the right, while the lower ones were drifting slightly to the left. I picked my spot and then prayed for them to line up just right …fortunately, they did.

    Best regards,

    Gene

Lovely curve and composition, Gene! Most appealing angle I’ve seen of balloons, I think. Nicely done!

  • Thank you very much, Jan! I had moved around a lot before I finally selected this spot. The balloons drifted right into this alignment, just a few seconds after I was ready to start shooting. I captured six frames, but this was the only one that had the right “line”. All the others had that “close, but no cigar” look to them.

I’m so pleased that you like this shot!

    Kindest wishes,

    Gene
