Some of the effects of the hot dry summer of 2010 can be seen on the last remaining roses, but they are still a wonderful sight to behold.

This closeup macro photo was captured with a Canon EOS 10D. A Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro prime lens was used. The shutter speed was at .7 second with an aperture of f/9.5. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a Manfrotto 222 head. A remote shutter release cable was also employed to prevent camera shake.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

Quite beautiful, Gene, and appealingly off center. We just had five guests from Baltimore and NJ here and we’ve returned them invigorated, tan, and bearded (not the lone female in the group). Heard of the three-digit temps!
But this delicate rose has survived somehow. Lovely closeup.

  • Thank you, Jan! I guess you have shared some time with the counterparts of Florida’s winter “snow bunnies” during Alaska’s short summertime. I must admit that we have seen an unusual number of triple-digit days down here this year. I’ll bet that everyone had a really great time there!

    Warmest wishes,

    Gene

Beautiful, Gene. I miss my roses. This color is so very soft. Appreciating what Jan sees, too… no middle of the frame for you ;-)

  • I’m sorry to hear that you don’t have your beautiful roses this year. I’ve always enjoyed your images of them. I really like the “peachy” color of these little roses …they’re just a bit different from most.

    Kindest wishes,

    Gene

  • Thank you so kindly, Dave! I really appreciate your extremely thoughtful words of encouragement!
