Chillisquaque Creek Running Through The Forests of Northumberland County by

This is the Chillisquaque Creek. I carefully followed this stream all the way through three counties in central Pennsylvania, hoping to find a spot just like this. The photo was taken on July 30th, 2010, from just above the historic Rishel Covered Bridge. This site is located near Montandon, Pennsylvaina, just off of RT-45. The view is from Covered Bridge Road, just upstream from America’s oldest remaining covered bridge. It’s a truly magic place to me.

The view was captured using a Canon EOS 10D camera with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L zoom lens. The focal length was set to 40mm. The shutter speed was 1/10th sec. at f/11. The camera’s ISO was set to 100.

FEATURED in “The World As We See It…”

TOP TEN Winner in “July Streams” Challenge in the “Streams & Stream Crossings” group.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

I think the further you go up the more beautiful it gets!! It looks like a wonderful
spot to just sit and enjoy being there!

  • Thank you so much, Ciana! There are three historic bridges that cross this stream in central Pennsylvania. I photographed two of them on Friday, but I ended up taking more photos of the creek than I did of the bridges. The water and reflections just looked so wonderful on this perfect summer day!

    Kindest wishes,

    Gene

So very lovely Gene – many beautiful little creeks nearby much like this but you’ve captured it with this incredible light and these gorgeous deep greens.

  • Thank you so much, Lianne! I was shooting an old bridge near here, but this view changed my main “focus” immediately! I’ll do those bridge photos later. lol

    Best wishes,

    Gene

    Beautiful and peaceful capture

  • Thanks, Joy! America’s oldest surviving covered bridge is about 200 feet from this spot. This view was so enticing that I temporarily gave up on shooting the bridge to grab this photo instead. It was incredibly peaceful here.

    Kindest regards,

    Gene

    Beautiful, peaceful looking spot.

  • Thanks a bunch, Eric! Yes, peaceful it was …and the light was just perfect. I’ve been to this spot several times before, but this was the prettiest I ever saw it there.

    All my best,

    Gene
