Amazing Hues Of Adams Falls by

THIS IS THE STARTING POINT FOR THE RICKETTS GLEN VISUAL WATERFALL TOUR

This image is the first of a full set of photographs of all of the beautiful waterfalls in Ricketts Glen State Park. These images are displayed in my Portfolio Collection titled “Ricketts Glen Falls”. I have arranged all of the photos in the Collection in exact order that they would appear to a hiker, starting with Adams Falls at the bottom of the glen. This set of photographs will eventually show each of the Ricketts Glen waterfalls in all four seasons. As of the end of 2012, all of the spring and autumn shots are currently displayed here. About half of the summer and winter images have been completed …so far. I will do my best to complete this project by mid 2013.

The “tour” begins here, at the southern most point in the park. If you move on, the hike crosses Route 118 and then continues north along Kitchen Creek to the “Waters Meet” point. From there, the trek climbs up the Glen Leigh Trail to the Highland Trail, crossing through the Midway Cravasse to the Ganoga Glen trail. The Falls Trail is then followed southward, down through Ganoga Glen in the gorge, back to the Waters Meet point.

These photos were taken during eight visits (so far) to Ricketts Glen, starting in summer of 2003. If you start here with “Adams Falls” and return to the collection page, all of the waterfalls can be selected in their actual order of appearance along the waterfall trails. Many of the falls are displayed in sets, as they appear in different seasons. Eventually, I will show all 22 of the “named” waterfalls in Ricketts Glen, in all four seasons at each site.

I HOPE YOU WILL ENJOY THE TRIP!

This is Adams Falls, the easiest access waterfall in Ricketts Glen State Park. The rich red color of the rocks is most visible from this spot. The nearby village of “Red Rock” got its name from these beautiful stone formations.

This was my last waterfall photograph of the day. I had waited for the evening light here, hoping that the amazing colors would be most visible at that time. My wish came true.

This fantastic site is just a short walk from the “Evergreen” parking area on RT-118. It is, by far, the easiest to reach waterfall in the entire park. That makes this the perfect place to end the day in Ricketts Glen State Park.

This photograph was captured with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens on a Canon EOS 10D DSLR body. The aperture was set to f/19 at the 1/2 sec. shutter speed. The lens was at its widest focal length of 17mm. The camera’s ISO was 200. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a 222 “pistol Grip” head.

This image was originally posted here on July 5th, 2010. As of March 21, 2011, the work has been viewed 500 times.

Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.
