A single purple azalea blossom, photographed from the closest distance possible, about six inches away.

This 1:1 macro photo was captured on May 14th, 2010, with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro prime lens. The shutter speed was 1/20th sec. at f/2.8. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a Manfrotto 222 “pistol grip” head.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

Dear Created, Talented & Unknown…. Well this explains a lot – the aliens have returned en force, & how mesmerizing they are. And amazing. Just beautiful.

  • Thank you so much, Sheila! I thought it would be a good idea to post a more conventional macro of the heart of an azalea to “explain” the darker shot I put up earlier. It’s not the same bloom and it’s from a different angle, but it does make the shot that was taken in the dark shade a bit easier to understand. They were both shot on the same day, one with and the other without sunshine.

    Kindest thanks,

    Gene
