New Azalea Blossoms Beside the General Burrows Covered Bridge by

*This is the exact same azalea bloom that I posted as a bud three days ago. Today, May 7th, it has bloomed. I am absolutely certain that this is the very same sprig, because it is the only part of the plant that can be framed with the side of the bridge directly behind it from this position.

It was very overcast, so there was no sun shining on the bridge behind the flower, like it was when I shot the bud. That’s why the background color looks different in today’s photo.

I love it when a plan comes together!*

The same rhododendron branch from May 4th

This particular rhododendron bush is growing right beside the General John Burrows Memorial Covered Bridge across Mill Creek in Indian Park. This is a beautiful municipal public facility is located within the town of Montoursville, Pennsylvania in the good ole USA.

The new macro photo was captured on May 7th, 2010, with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro prime lens. The shutter speed was 1/30th sec. at f/4. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a Manfrotto 222 “pistol grip” head.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

Very beautiful! The colour of the background makes this perfect :-)

  • Thank you very Kindly, Marie! I’ve been watching this rhododendron bush very carefully for over two weeks, just hoping to catch the very first blooms. I had been waiting for this very blossom to flower, specifically because of the color of the background behind it.

    Best wishes,

    Gene

Are rhodies related to fuschias, Gene? I knew the correlation with azaleas. Hmm, off to wikipedia.

  • I don’t think the flowers are related at all. I was only referring to the color of the petals, not the species of the plant.

  • Thanks a lot, Ginny! It bloomed at the perfect time for me to catch it. I was thrilled when I stopped by this afternoon …and there it was!
