Miss Kitty Loving The Attention by

This is Miss Kitty allowing me to push a macro lens very close to her face for this closeup portrait.

Miss Kitty was saved from the worst fate imaginable when we adopted her. She has been a deeply loved, full fledged member of our family ever since.

This macro photo was captured with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact-Macro prime lens. The shutter speed was 0.3 sec at f/2.5. The camera’s ISO was set to 200. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release. Two small studio lamps were used with no flash.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

    Excellent image…. John

  • Thanks, John! I couldn’t believe that she was willing to put up with a short macro lens right in front of her nose… but I’m glad she did.

    All my best,

    Gene

Soulful indeed. Preparing to swat you up ‘side your head, perhaps. But no, she wouldn’t do that. A fine shot. Meow.

  • Thanks, Sheila! Na, she’s a sweetheart. If she doesn’t something, she just exits, stage left…

I love black cats. One of my favorite cats was all black. His name was Rocky. I still miss him and it’s been years. This photo makes me happy.

  • I am so glad that my picture of Miss Kitty brings back fond memories of Rocky for you. Thank you, Nancy!

    Best wishes,

    Gene

Oh, Miss Kitty is behaving for ya! Well done, Gene. I really like her expression… kinda patient.. but watch the nails? ;-)

  • Thanks, Maureen! I never worry about her nails… she knows exactly where her bread is buttered. She has a thick braided rug where sharpening is permitted, and she knows that’s the only place where scratching is allowed. I’m totally amazed that she faithfully follows the rules of the house, especially in that regard.

She becomes extremely “loving” in winter because she knows she its completely dependent upon her humans when it’s nasty outside. (She’s not our cat …we are her people. lol) She gets much more aloof in the other seasons, when she knows she is quite able to “fend for herself”. That’s Miss Kitty.

    Best wishes,

    Gene
