Snowy Muncy Creek Crossing by

From the water’s edge, this the December 5th view of the Moreland Covered Bridge, near Lairdsville, Pennsylvania, USA. The bridge is located on Covered Bridge Road, off of PA State Route 118, in eastern Lycoming County. Local folks just call it the “Old Lairdsville Bridge”.

The Moreland Bridge was built way back in 1888. It crosses the “Little” Muncy Creek in Moreland Township. The bridge is also called the Fraser Covered Bridge in several historical documents. The structure is a classic “Burr Arch” design. There is an unusual window in the side boards, to allow riders to see if anyone is approaching on the sharp turn at the far side. This beautiful landmark was officially listed on the US National Historical Register in 1980 and is maintained by the Lycoming County Commissioners out of Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The photo was shot as a blinding snowstorm was just getting started.

The photo was captured with Canon EOS 10D DSLR body, fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens. The lens was set to 24mm focal length and camera’s shutter speed was 1/90th sec at f/4.5. The camera’s ISO was set to 100.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

Love the angle and the red of the bridge really stands out in the snow.
Here in many places the snow has been washed away by the rain …

  • Thank you so much, Poupoune! We had been getting lots of snow followed by rain and then more snow here too. Right now there is a very cold blast of Canadian air blowing in from the north. I don’t think we will see any more melting in Pennsylvania for a while.

    All my best,

    Gene

Very nice shot Gene! It is a well deserved reward for braving the cold weather.

  • Thank you very much, Mark! I was really glad I went back out there in the snow. The falling white flakes certainly added a special touch to this great old bridge.

    Best 2010 wishes,
