A snowy walk through the park revealed this wonderful, simple scene! I was extremely thankful that I decided to take that walk in the snow… the first snowstorm of winter.

If the little pine was talking to the maple tree, what do you think it would be saying?

This image was captured in Indian Park at the edge of Montoursville, Pennsylvania, USA. These trees are in clear view as you are walking through the General John Burrows covered bridge over Mill Creek. Looking through the covered bridge from the other side, the maple is perfectly framed. It’s like looking through a paper tube as a child, pretending it is a telescope.

The photo was shot with a Canon EOS 10D body fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens, at the 17mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/6th sec at f/8. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto, tripod was used with a remote shutter release cable. The image was cropped very slightly, no processing or any form of enhancement.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

I think the pine tree is saying “Do you want to dance under the light of the moon?”

  • Wonderful! Thank you so much!

That is exactly the type of thoughts that were going through my mind. I was hoping that I would see some really interesting replies like yours. Perfect!

    Best wishes,

I think you’ve caught a very rare moment here: the pine is eagerly asking, “Can I please go play in the snow? Can I?” :)

I think the little spruce is trying to make its way over to the maple – maybe for a sip of sap, or for some company. Wonderful shot – glad you took that walk, too. We finally have snow – almost 3 inches in 3 hours….

  • Ha,ha, ha! I really love your impression of the scene, Sheila! Brilliant!

I am glad that I worked up the “gumshin” to go out with my camera on Saturday, too! I haven’t even gotten a chance to preview all of the shots I took yet. So far, I think it was worth the cold feet & fingers.

In three days, we got about 10" of snow, but a lot of it melted when the rain came in from the south. It’s mostly white around here, though. My friend in Erie, PA says that they are bracing for 3 FEET of snow! I hope you’re not in a “lake effect” area.

    All my best,

Probably comparing weather notes and sap flow :-) Really pretty, Gene!

  • You mean like, “Hey, baby… How ’bout some of that sweet liquid sap? The cold has turned mine to pine tar…” Ha, ha,ha!

    Thanks a bunch, Maureen!

    Only my best,
