Autumn Evening Along Trout Run Creek by

*This beautiful fall evening was a real treat in Trout Run, Pennsylvania. The sun made a quick appearance from behind the clouds, as I was crossing the bridge on Trout Run Mountain Road into this friendly little town.

The cool breeze was ruffling the fallen leaves and causing the old willow tree to kind of “sparkle” in the sunshine, in a beautifully usual way.*

After the old paper mill was closed here, the “dead” creek was able to come back to life! There really are lots of trout in Lycoming Creek now! This is a gorgeous place where the people truly respect their little stream, and it shows.

This photo was taken just before sunset on Sunday, October 18th, with a Canon EOS 10D DSLR camera through a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L telephoto zoom lens @ 50mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/20th sec at f/19. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

  • Thank you very much, Joy!

A guy was walking across the bridge while I was taking this photo. He stopped and asked me what I was shooting. He looked up the stream and it was like he saw it for the first time, even though he crossed the bridge nearly every day. That was pretty cool.

    Best wishes,

    So well done, Gene xo

  • Thanks, Maureen! I saw this vision and immediately skidded to a stop, right there in the middle of the bridge. I jumped out of my van to catch the scene before the lighting changed. Less than a minute after I shot this frame, the sunshine was gone. Sometimes it just works out the way we want it to.

    Best wishes,

    Gene

Lovely serene image Gene. The sunlight can make all the difference and when it pops out for just the right moment it is truly a blessing. Often i wait and wait for it…watching the clouds move…hoping that they will part long enough for me to get the shot and light that I am hoping for. Lovely time of year right now..You caught it so well.
    Liz

  • Much appreciated, Liz! I do the “waiting for the perfect light” thing all the time too. This situation was just the opposite, I was praying for the light to stay just as it was for just a bit longer, so I could get my tripod setup. Thankfully, the sun stayed out just long enough for me to catch the shot.

You are sooo right, it truly is a lovely time of the year! The only problem here is the constant rain and early snow. Oh well, it’s still beautiful anyway!

    Best wishes,

    Gene

    excellent, so peaceful and beautiful

  • Thanks a bunch, Kathy! It truly is a very peaceful place. I just went back there this evening to see how it looked again. I haven’t seen the photos from today yet, but I might have another view of this stream soon.

    My best,

    Gene
