The glorious colors of autumn on Bald Eagle Mountain are reflecting on the calm waters of the Susquehanna, enhancing a mirror image of the historic Arch Street Bridge.
This span across the Susquehanna river is scheduled for replacement (and destruction) in the very near future. Construction of the new bridge was started in the fall of 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2014. I have been photographing this old bridge for years, to have a permanent record of how beautiful it is (…or was).
A flock of birds is gathering strength to head south on this perfect fall day. Their winged images are also faintly visible in the sky’s reversed image on the water’s smooth surface.
A finer autumn day has never been.
The Arch Street Bridge connects the city of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, USA, to the borough of Duboistown, across the west branch of the Susquehanna River. This bridge is listed in Historic Bridges of the United States. This was the first and only span into Duboisetown, constructed in 1923.
This photo was captured from the shore of Susquehanna State Park with a Canon EOS 10D body fitted with a Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 Prime lens. The shutter speed was 1/350th sec at f/13.
