Coopers Rock is the focal point in Coopers Rock State Forest, a West Virginia State Park (operated in cooperation with the WV Division of Forestry). The park has so much to offer, excellent hiking trails that meander through enormous spires of stone, views that are “to die for” and beautiful rhododendron flowers everywhere you look!
This vista view was captured on the actual “Cooper’s Rock” overlook, facing east over West Virginia’s Cheat River Valley, toward Maryland and Pennsylvania. All three states are clearly visible from this high perch. The Cheat River is seen below in this picture.
The numerous clouds overhead were casting dark shadows on the ground, creating some very interesting visual effects.
This photo was captured with a Canon EOS 10D body fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens, at the widest focal length. The shutter speed was 1/180th sec at f/6.7. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a Canon remote shutter release.
