This is another new blossom on my neighbor’s gorgeous magnolia tree, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The tree had just bloomed this week and the short-lived beauty will be fading very quickly. This shot was taken at sunset.

This photo was taken on April 19th, in the spring of 2009. It was shot “hand-held” (on a ladder) with a Canon EOS 10D with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro prime lens. The shutter speed was 1/500th sec at f/5.6, no flash. The camera’s ISO was set to 400.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

Hand held on a ladder? and I thought I was nuts! ;o) lol. Beautiful shot, very delicate! Take care, Linda

  • Thank you very kindly, Linda!

Yes, you can find me up high on a ladder, with my camera and my best macro lens, in this very same tree, every year at this time.

These beautiful blossoms will just be brown splotches on the sidewalk by early next week. lol

    Best wishes,

    Gene

    Love these flowers

  • Kelly, believe it or not, I start watching this tree for signs of blossoms in March, even though I actually know that it won’t bloom until the third week of April.

    Thank you!

Lovely Gene…I see you like them as well. Well captured!

    Debra

  • Thank you, Debra! I must admit, I get very excited around the third week in April. That is when the magnolias bloom here in central Pennsylvania. When I see the magnolia trees in bloom, I know that winter has finally passed.

    Thanks,

    Gene

I do love them as well Gene so I know what you are talking about. I have two more trees I’m watching that should bloom in a few more days…a hot pink one and a yellow one. Stay tuned!

    Debra

  • Thanks, Debra! I’ll definitely be watching for them!
