God Looked Down Upon The Frozen Earth by

Sometimes you view your images for the first time and find something in them that wasn’t obvious as you were shooting the photo.

This was an extremely cold winter’s evening, with a snow squall approaching rapidly from the west. The West Branch of the Susquehanna river was completely frozen over solid, which is a fairly unusual occurrence in central Pennsylvania.

If you look closely at the clouds, you might discover an image of God looking down upon the desolate winter landscape.

This is not a “manipulated” or “composite image”. There was no “painting” or any changes made in the picture. The contrast was compensated using PhotoMatix Pro, to expand the dynamic range. The image has been cropped slightly to make it 8X10 format, otherwise is just as the camera saw it.

This is Susquehanna State Park, in the Newberry section of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, USA. The photo was shot with a Canon EOS 10D camera using a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L zoom lens @ 126mm. The shutter speed was 1/125th sec at f/8. The camera’s ISO was set to 200. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

Hi Gene. Interesting eyes, nose and face that you have nicely captured here. Well done. Regards, Steve

  • Thank you, Steve! As soon as this image came up on my monitor, the facial features were immediately obvious. I appreciate your kind comment!

Oh my Gene! I see Him! Wow! He was looking down on you in approval. His eyes are smiling. Your work is for His glory! Exceptional! I’m stunned and in awe. What an eye you have. What eyes He has!

  • A truly heartfelt thank you! I suspected that you might appreciate this image. I was hoping that you would get a chance to see it.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t really my “eyes” that caught this shot, it was “providence”. I didn’t even see the significance of the image, until I looked at the shot on my big monitor. All of the sudden, I saw that divine face looking right back at me. It really was a complete surprise.

I know it isn’t a technically good photograph, but I just like it anyway. I am so pleased that you saw this one and “got” exactly what I had discovered in the picture.

    Best wishes,

    Gene

Amazing photo, it gives me the creeps!

  • Thank you very much! I guess I didn’t see the “big brother” aspect that gave you “the creeps”. I saw the image more as a shepherd diligently watching over his flock.

Thank you for allowing me to realize a completely different perspective on the shot! Deeply appreciated!

    Best wishes,

    Gene
