Patrolling The Levee by Gene Walls

It was a crisp October evening, just after sunset. I could see that everything was completely under control. The bicycle police officer was peddling his beat on the levee beside the Bowman Field parking lot in Williamsport, PA, USA.

I later learned that this is Patrolman McGee of the Williamsport City Police Department. His wife recognized his profile in this photograph. My next door neighbor let me know the whole story behind this picture. Her son just happens to be engaged to Officer McGee’s niece. I had no idea about any of this until a year after the shot was taken. I guess the City of Williamsport is really just a small town after all.

This image was captured handheld on October 30th, 2007, with a Canon EOS 10D camera through a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L USM professional lens zoomed to 120mm, shot at 1/500th sec @ f/4.5.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.
