Sheldon Reynolds Falls On The Longest Day Of The Year by

Kitchen Creek takes a dramatically steep tumble as soon as the stream reaches the sharply defined ledge of Sheldon Reynolds falls. The end of spring’s runoff season has reduced the flow substantially here, but recent rains have sparked a bit of new life into this impressive cascade.

Summer leaves had already reached their deepest hues of green on the 21st of June in Ricketts Glen. The longest day of the year allowed me to visit this site very late so I could be sure that this waterfall would be completely free of any direct sunlight. Bright sun and harsh shadows had always made this site a real challenge to photograph properly. It was the perfect time to capture the stunning summertime beauty of Sheldon Reynolds Falls.

The photo was captured on June 21, 2014, during a solo hike through Ricketts Glen.

This image of Sheldon Reynolds Waterfall was captured with a Canon 5D DSLR, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the 40mm focal length. The aperture was f/5.6 with a 2.0 second shutter speed at ISO 100. A Manfrotto tripod and pistol grip head were used with a remote shutter release.

The image is presented exactly “as-is”. It was simply converted to jpeg from the camera RAW file in Photoshop CS2. No cropping, enhancements or alterations were applied to this photograph.

Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA. Sheldon Reynolds is the second waterfall on the trail from RT-118, at the bottom of the glen.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.
