Sometimes God smiles and grants a prayer for a humble photographer. On this perfect August afternoon, the winds had gone totally still and the light was absolutely perfect for waterfall photography. A group of young hikers almost walked directly into this shot, but they noticed the camera and waited for this 20 second exposure to finish before they continued on their way.
The very thick canopy of trees restricts the amount of sunlight that can find its way to the forest floor in this section of the gorge. The natural light that is available here allows very long exposures, when the air is very calm. On this day, all the right elements came together at the right time.
You are viewing Seneca Falls. This image was captured from the very narrow ledge on the Ganoga Glen Falls Trail. This hiking path leads to the large Ganoga Waterfall, which is slightly visible in the background.

Ricketts Glen is a large State Park, located in the north eastern region of Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest community to the park is Red Rock, situated at the junction state routes RT-118 and RT-487.
This photo was taken on August 15th, 2013 with a Canon EOS 5D DSLR body, fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens. The lens was set to its 35mm focal length. The camera’s shutter speed was a full 20 seconds at f/16, ISO 100.
