Sam Wagner Covered Bridge From Creek Road
The Sam Wagner Covered Bridge is also known as the Gottlieb Brown Bridge. It was originally built in 1881 and had major repairs in 1982.
This great old bridge crosses Chillisquaque Creek, connecting Northumberland County to Montour County. It is located about 3 miles east of RT-147 in Milton, Pennsylvania, just off of State Route 642 along Creek Road. The bridge is in a beautiful setting, with expansive farm fields on one side of the stream and lovely family farm houses and barns surrounding it on the other.
This bridge was listed on the National Register Of Historic Places in 1979 – Structure #79002311

This photo was was shot “handheld” using a Canon EOS 10D camera with a Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM zoom lens. The focal length was 35mm. The shutter speed was 1/125th sec. at f/5.6. The camera’s ISO was set to 100.

I never, ever tire of seeing these, Gene… The softness to this one, the rainy feel, is slightly different than the others you have shared. It has it’s own flavor, I guess you can say, and really appeals to me! Well Done
Gene Walls replied
Thanks, Maureen! This one required two bracketed exposures of the same frame, gently processed in PhotoMatrix Pro, mostly to maintain the subtle details in the cloudy sky.
I shot this between two important appointments, so I only had a few minutes to get the shots I wanted. This bridge is in such a gorgeous setting that I’ll have to go back to get more photos of it sometime. The barns and farmhouses very near this bridge are absolutely fantastic. I just didn’t have time to capture everything that was so interesting to see here.
Most gratefully,
Gene

It looks like the bridge matches the color of the buildings to the left of the photo. A lovely shot!
Gene Walls replied
Thank you so much, Mary-Ann! Yes, the barn in the background is like a perfect match to the bridge, and it’s about the same age, too. I plan to go back sometime to get more photos of the bridge and the barn in a single shot. I didn’t have the right lens with me to do that when I was there on Friday. More of this one to come, eventually…
My best,
Gene

Lenses can be a pain! We have back packs and carry the spares in them. It also helps that Bob and I have the same thype of camera….unless we both want the same lens.
Gene Walls replied
This was an odd situation where I had to travel very “light”, due to the appointments I had that day. We usually do share lenses when my wife, Abbey, and I go shooting together. We both have Canon DSLRs so we can cut down on our “lens load”, just like you do. That arrangement works extremely well for us too.
Unfortunately, I only had my 35-350mm lens and camera with me this day. That’s the lens I usually take with me when I can only take one. At least, I did have my camera with me. It’s OK, I really needed a good excuse to revisit this gorgeous site, anyway!
Best wishes,
Gene

Absolutely wonderful!
Love how the bridge seems so light and the brick red and the colours of fall.

This is lovely. You do seem to find the beautiful spots in this wonderful state. I especially like the fall colors against this bridge.
Gene Walls replied
Thank you so much! I actually carry a complete printout of the covered bridges in Pennsylvania with me all the time. When I travel to appointments, I always check to see if I will be passing near one of the historic sites on the list. One buy one, I plan to capture as many of these as I possibly can. It’s a healthy “obsession”.
Best wishes,
Gene
