Autumn Shoreline Reflection
The rain and clouds finally cleared, just in time to allow me to get out to the lake while the leaves are still showing their finest colors. This is the shoreline of Rose Valley Lake in Gamble Township, north central Pennsylvania. Rose Valley is 5 miles east of the community of Trout Run.
When you visit a beautiful place like Rose Valley Lake, please leave it exactly as you found it! Your food wrappers and empty containers must go back home with you for proper disposal. I had to do some cleaning up to be able to capture this pristine shot. Let’s all do the right thing, OK. Everyone benefits when we keep our “green” places green!
This photo was taken on October 10th, 2009. It was shot with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L zoom lens set to 90mm. The shutter speed was 1/45th sec. at f/8. The camera’s ISO was set to 100.
Your comments are always welcome! Constructive criticism is appreciated.

POP’s
Gene Walls replied
Thank you very much, POP’s! I really appreciate your very kind assessment. However, this image on RB shows a “blown out” area in the clouds, but the original doesn’t have that problem at all. I think RBs algorithm is changing my images exposure quite a bit. Have you noticed this problem in any of your photos? I wanted to keep this shot “as-is”, but I might have to compensate for the changes that RBs software applies. I would be very grateful for your thoughts on this matter.

Perfection! Fab reflection.
Gene Walls replied
Thank you so much Debbie! I was so relieved when the sun came out this afternoon so I could get out to the lake before the leaves were gone. It’s been nasty around here, weather-wise.
Best wishes,
Gene

Lovely shot, and I thank you for preaching to litterbugs – they are low life forms.
Gene Walls replied
Thanks! I am so pleased that you like the shot! Doesn’t it just make you mad when you go somewhere as beautiful as this and there is garbage littering the shore? Oh, well, it didn’t take much effort to pick the junk up.
My best,
Gene

All around terrific shot.. the dof, the light, the soft treatment.. terrific, Gene. Right up there with my favorites of yours. xo

ps Gene.. yes. RB uploads are different than our originals….... they DO get blown out, or otherwise muted, sometimes too dark… blah.. But i have adjusted my eye to see it here on Rb
Gene Walls replied
I am so relieved that I wasn’t just imagining the problem. I uploaded the picture twice, thinking that something was wrong. Some of the detail in the clouds has been “washed out” and the contrast looks different. Does the top left portion of the sky look “blown out” to you?
I think I’ll see if I can compensate for the difference and re-load the image again.

It seems worse since the hiatus before last…. very frustrating.. you are not alone. Other people are complaining and asking me the same things. Not sure what can be done about, but it is very frustrating to work hard to achieve a certain look to our work, only to have it not represented as done. I have looked at my work from other screens, worked on my images from other places as well, and it always looks the same.. so again, it isnt me lol Yes, the top left looks blown out to me…...I cant keep compensating for RB stuff, ya know? Already having to upload smaller images to be able to upload at all here. sigh
Gene Walls replied
I am so sorry that you are still having problems uploading full size images! I thought that matter had been resolved.
I love almost everything about this site, hopefully these technical issues can be fixed quickly.
Sincerely,
Gene
Maureen Maliha
and, as a postscript, i often find that work here looks far more two dimensional than it is
Gene Walls replied
I do see that too. Oh, well, I’ll try try adjusting the image a bit with the highlights & shadows tool to see what I can do to fix it.

Simply beautiful, Gene. Vivid hues and a lovely reflection!

Thanks so much, Jan! Supposedly, we’re getting snow tomorrow, so I might not get another chance to shoot any more “flaming foliage” shots this year. So sad…

This is absolutely beautiful Gene! How the trees and colors are mirrored in the lake is outstanding! Also would like to add a footnote here in reference to the above conversation you had with Maureen Maliha. I had always thought it was just me because some of my photo’s look washed out when I post them when they did not before. Perhaps RB can attend to this technical problem. They are usually very attentive to things like that. ~:)
Gene Walls replied
Thank you so much!
Regarding your footnote, It was a problem for me, but I figured out a way to compensate my images to reduce the “washes-out” difficulties to an acceptable level. I just reduce the brightness of all of my RB uploads (-5 in PS brightness in “Brightness / Contrast” control panel) before I post them, and then they look fairly normal to me now. I already fixed this image since I noticed the problem and I don’t see the “blown-out” areas in the clouds any more. Do you still see a problem in this photo?
Much appreciated,
Gene
Cindirelli
No, Gene, I do not see any problems in this at all! This is a very beautiful piece and the brightness is right on, I think. ~:)
Gene Walls replied
Thanks a lot for the follow-up! I’m glad that you can confirm that it looks OK on your computer.
Gratefully,
