Snarling Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) by

Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) are very inquisitive creatures, and are known to approach humans. This one approached my open vehicle at De Wildt in South Africa in mid-2007 and I was able to take a series of close-up photographs at a range of less than 2 metres. I was not brave enough to get any closer, though I have seen Cheetah come real close, smell and even lick people – not something one’s instincts usually permit.

Thanks Margaret – at the moment I pressed the shutter I wasn’t sure who was getting snapped, me (by those teeth) or the fabulous cat!

Many thanks for featuring the cheetah shot – much appreciated. It was a spectacular moment, one not easily forgotten (with or without the photo to remind me!).
