Exiting the second floor of the tourism bureau in Ubud I glanced toward the famous market and the Royal Palace and noticed this man preparing for one of the thousands of religious ceremonies performed daily by Balinese Hindus. What makes it extraordinary is the position of his altar – smack in the middle of one of the main roads, not five metres away from the busiest intersection in Ubud.
