Driving along the area of Vermillion Cliffs, we came across a field that was littered with these “smaller” rocks. I decided to take to take this one for fun.

This is my shooting buddy Dave. Dave is a 6’ 2" guy (who also happnes to be a very strong guy to hold a rock like that in place LOL). This image should give you an idea of how large this one rock is (taken from at least about 200 ft away). And there were hundreds of them in this little field along the side of the road, about a mile away from the grand daddy of them all (shown in my image titled Vermillion Cliffs – 1).

Hope you like this one too.

Since joining RB I’ve greatly enjoyed being part of a lovely community of wonderful people. I’ve also made some new friends that I hope to meet one day in person. I have several passions/hobbies/professions (music, photography, martial arts & yes environmental engineering to name a few)! I am very blessed being able to work in all of these. Please feel free to visit & provide honest opinion on my photos as I am still learning (a day that goes by without learning anything is a wasted day).

My goodness, Dave is a little guy, kind of a matchstick man compared to the size of the rock. Love the comparison which is amazing. You have framed this image beautifully with excellent focus showing lovely detail and textures. Still loving this series big time. The Vermillion Cliffe in the background just make this image complete….what an amazing scene. Another winner, showing off your excellent photography skills. Susan

  • Hi Susan; trust me, Dave is a big guy, but looks like a midget standing next to this “small” rock (LOL). There was no other way to show perspective as we were the only two people out there in the middle of no where. Glad you’re still enjoying the series Susan. The trip does get better with the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon and other locations coming to a screen near you pretty soon. Many, many thanks my friend for everything; your support; your wonderful feedback, and your friendship. Hany

My dear Hany……………….what a wonderful image…………..but I am quite cross……………can you guess why?………………you will be forgiven in advance if you promise me that there is an image further on down the line taken by Dave……………you know the one where you hold up the rock……………I can wait, but I am expecting it…………..aside from that terrible disappointment the scale is staggering……………….a marvellous way to give us some perspective…………….your little waiting for the Hany image friend in Ireland……………………Joyce!!

  • My dear dear Joyce….. I could guess why even before finishing reading your lines…… and if I may be forgiven in advance….. oooooh……. sorry to disappoint………. my friend Dave does not know how to take images of people (LOL)….. neither do I for that matter…….. but I decided to include him in the image for perspective and sense of scale as you have correctly guessed…….. besides, my muscles are not as big as Dave’s……… I hope this is not a terribly terrible disappointment…….. I hope you’re still my friend (LOL)……….. from your faceless for now friend…….. Hany

Perfect balance, wow…this is a fabulous photo, it really shows the depth and breadth of this rock, the colors and the shadows…and most of all the size! The rock is perfectly balanced to stand at attention, wow! Fabulous!

  • Thanks Brenda. I think we should be thanking our friend Dave for holding the rock in place (LOL). Without him, we would have no sense of scale on thse rocks. Thank you Brenda. And I am glad you like it.
