Day 6 of my trip was telling me that the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon was not meant to be on that day. My day kept leading me to more and more wonderful and intriguing places than I could have ever read about in a tour book or planned to see, no matter how much planning I did.

These cliffs were a testament to this majestic and isolated place. If I remember correctly, they are located about a 45 minute drive from the City of Page, which is almost at the Arizona/Utah border. These sandstone cliffs form about a 3,000 foot escarpment with many geologic layers formed in a way similar to a layer cake. It is a very remote area with many towering cliffs and deep canyons, with elevations ranging from 3,000 to 6,500 feet.

Approaching this place from a distance, I thought to myself I can easily climb one of those cliffs to capture an overview of the area. Yeah right!!! How naive I was. I will be posting a close-up image (closer-up) of one of these cliffs for an idea of scale.

Hope you like this one.

Since joining RB I’ve greatly enjoyed being part of a lovely community of wonderful people. I’ve also made some new friends that I hope to meet one day in person. I have several passions/hobbies/professions (music, photography, martial arts & yes environmental engineering to name a few)! I am very blessed being able to work in all of these. Please feel free to visit & provide honest opinion on my photos as I am still learning (a day that goes by without learning anything is a wasted day).

Just fabulous Hany, another dynamic scene with lots of natural elements. The shot has great depth and interest, as many of your other images show. Love the different colors, hues textures and ruggedness, and the sheer size is evidenced to a degree by the amount of sky showing above the cliffs. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to visit too many of these places on my trip (went with hubby to a conference in Scottsdale, so the travelling was limited, much to my chagrin). One of these days……Awesome, awesome, awesome image yet again my friend. Susan

  • Many, many thanks Susan. Really appreciate the feedbackand the commentary. The sheer size of these cliffs was just beyond my wildest imagination. And from a distance they looked really decieving. I do remember you said you went with your hubby on a conference and never really had a chance to visit the entire area. But never say never; you’ll never know. One of these days you will. Thank you so much Susan. Really appreciate all your visits and your feedback. It’s wonderful to have your support. Thank you my friend. Hany

Absolutely amazing! reminds me of all those cowboy movies I watched growing up! (not that i’ve grown up yet!!!). Great capture, I am so envious i could chew tabacco and spit!!!! :)

  • Hey Robyn; good to hear from you again. I knew you were snatched by some chewing tobacco cowboy. Ok… who was it? John Wayne or Clint Eastwood? Never mind. Let’s say we’re glad you’re back in RB land. And let’s get something straight here….. growing up is optional; that’s my motto and I’m sticking to it (LOL). Thank you Robyn for the lovely visit this morning. Your comments and feedback is always very cheerful, funny, and superbly appreciated. Now how is that for structural composition first thing in the morning with my first sip of coffee?
