Sharing A Drink With Myself Called Loneliness - It's Better Than Drinking Alone by

Are you upset my little shadow? Have you been lying awake all night with no inner light to keep you company? Well, don’t worry my friend… I’m here. The flood waters will recede; the famine will end; the sun will shine tomorrow; and I will always be here to take care of you.

With the approach of another “Happy New Year”, some of us become once more aware of loneliness and time, two companions without whom no journey can yield us anything. And at the innermost core of all loneliness is a deep and powerful yearning for union with one’s lost self.

It is cruel, in many ways, that photograpny and music should be so beautiful. They both have the beauty of strength and freedom. But also the beauty of loneliness and pain; the beauty of disappointment and never-satisfied love; and the cruel and everlasting beauty of nature and monotony.

From in between the notes and the pixels, I dedicate this image to all the lonely people in the world. Hope the new year brings us all back to reaching out not with our hands, but with our hearts (youtube clip below)

Since joining RB I’ve greatly enjoyed being part of a lovely community of wonderful people. I’ve also made some new friends that I hope to meet one day in person. I have several passions/hobbies/professions (music, photography, martial arts & yes environmental engineering to name a few)! I am very blessed being able to work in all of these. Please feel free to visit & provide honest opinion on my photos as I am still learning (a day that goes by without learning anything is a wasted day).

Very beautiful image Hany, and amazingly touching words written. Lonliness is something many of us experience, sometimes infrequently, however, for some, it is experienced on a regular basis. You are right, we all need to reach out with our hearts to help those in need. Awesome video my friend. Happy New Year to you. Susan

  • Many, many thanks Susan. Apologize for the tardiness in replying as I was going through a couple of days of rough time, but now that the blues are over and will be replaced by purples (LOL), I am Ok now. Want to sincerely thank you from the heart for your wonderful words of support and for your friendship. It means a lot to me. Thank you Susan. Hope you had a wonderful new celebration with your husband and kids and friends. All the best for 2012. Hany

Should I ever be feeling a bit down, I can go to “My Favourites” and look again at this picture and once again read these words and listen to “America”.

One song that brings me back to Earth is an old one, Ralph McTell’s “Streets of London”. Now I’m not competent to put up a U-Tube clip of it, perhaps someone will. The chorus of it goes:

“So how can you tell me you’re lonely, and say for you that the Sun don’t shine?
Let me take you by the hand, and lead you through the streets of London
And I will show you something to make you change your mind.”

The essence of the song can be seen, sadly, in just about any city or town in the World.

Thank you once again, Hany, at the start of this New Year, for reaching out with your imagery and with your sincere heart. Your good wishes will be returned to you many fold. :)george

  • Thank you George for your last piece of RB mail. And I mean “a very sincere thank you”. Got it first thing this morning; Monday my time…. I am hoping I can conjure up some strength later today to write you back. I know you understand all about treading deeper waters! Until then, take care of that old bloke and his dog, and I hope you have a wonderful evening. Your friend from the other side of the planet.

This picture says it all, as well as your descriptive heart felt words. The song that accompanies your writing, is perfect. I understand, and yet…..the sun will rise again, when one is ready for it. The deep loss and loneliness that is felt on so many levels..is slowly fading away .as healing begins…the glimmer of hope, of light, the shadows recede and the essence of light, starts to mingle with the shadows, the understanding, the wisdom flows…and one then understands the two sided coin, the yin/yang differences, as the two blend together. The tears of lonliness, the awareness of pain and agony, mingling with the understanding, the wisdom and compassion, the light appears…and the heart shares its story with another. The merging of one with oneself, the union of both the sadness, lonliness, and the joy of just being, sharing, caring, loving, and bringing happiness to the same soul. It is a difficult journey, the one here on earth…but out of the experience…one becomes whole and integrated. AS one can…in time…in all ways…peace is born, from the integration…and an inner knowing of life. All the best Hany!!

  • Thank you for being so understanding; for your lovely and supportive words and thoughts; for your guidance and your light; for your message of hope; and for sharing and caring. You’re a wonderful friend and you’ve been there all along, and for that I thank you ever so sincerely. All the best to you too Brenda. P.S. The family that you’re working with – how are they doing? Been thinking about them lately…
