For some odd reason, I felt this morning that I should switch over from processing my photos from the warm and sunny “Vegas Versus The Canyon” series to the frozen cold and windy un-named series. Since winter is upon us in this part of the planet, and we are bound to get days like that, I thought I should demonstrate how crazy some of us can get for the sake of a photo.

This image was shot back on December 20, 2009. The weather was mild for a few days and all snow from a previous snow fall has melted away. Then, a couple of days later, we had this extreme weather system that dropped the temperature down to almost 20 below over night, and with some rain and snow falling, heavy in certain areas, flash freezing in other areas, what do I decide to do? You got it. Pack my equipment and venture on a drive for a couple of hours to get shots like this. Da ya think I’m crazy? Ok – you don’t have to answer that.

Even though the simple act of walking was very hazardous to my legs and knees, as well as challenging to my balance with a camera and tripod in hand, I was very happy to be rewarded with scenes like this. My other reward was…… I did make it back home that day….. needles to say with minor injuries and lots of frozen body parts.

Hope you like this image.

Since joining RB I’ve greatly enjoyed being part of a lovely community of wonderful people. I’ve also made some new friends that I hope to meet one day in person. I have several passions/hobbies/professions (music, photography, martial arts & yes environmental engineering to name a few)! I am very blessed being able to work in all of these. Please feel free to visit & provide honest opinion on my photos as I am still learning (a day that goes by without learning anything is a wasted day).

Wonderful image Hany. I love how the ice formations in the foreground catch the eye first and then moves onto the rushing falls and then the unusual building that seems so out of place and then finally to the silhouetted trees and the beautiful colours in the sky. A wonderful image from a consummate photographer.

  • Many, many thank you’s William for such a wonderful feedback. You are making my head swell now…. I don’t think I have ever been called a consummate photographer….. but coming from you, again, it is an honour, and I will graciously accept it. Thank you again; and sincerely appreciate the favorite.

Oh my dear Hany, I was thawing out nicely until I looked at this capture……………it is quite an amazing shot of an iconic place………..I love the ready made snowballs in the foreground………………again I have this wonderful image of you trundling along laden down with photographic equipment, not forgetting your tripod, to lie in the frozen snow in order to bring your amazingly good captures back to share with all of us…………..thank you for doing that…………..you will have completely thawed out by now, I hope and I shall refrain from further comment, at least publically…………………..keep them coming my friend………………….J!!

  • Hello Joyce… it is indeed such a fascinating place to visit. I am lucky to live only less than 2 hours away; even more lucky that my work takes me to that area quite often and I get to see all the beauty that the Niagara Region has to offer at different times of the year. Now on that specific trip, I recall only carrying a camera, my tripod, 2 lenses and 4 filters… not much on a good day; but quite a bit to set up on a day like this one….. oh well… the things we do….. call me crazy……. Kate already did (LOL)…… Thank you Joyce for taking the time…… there will be some more…… it’s that time of the year…. LOL….

Oh WOW!! I would say that it’s probably freezing at this time of year Hany and I am not one bit envious…..so cold and yes I think you are totally crazy but a result well worth the effort!!…awesome capture though!!

  • Hello Kate; now that I have been totally certified by you…. LOL…… yeah…. it was a bit wee cold, even for a seasoned outdoor person like myself….. I think if I remember correctly even my camera was complaining….. oh well……. it was all worth it at the end. Thank yo so much for your wonderful feedback and encouraging words. Sincerely appreciate it Kate….. good to hear from you. Hany
