Artist's Description

It must have been around 11:00 pm. After a long day of shooting in and around the Forbidden City, we decided, like every other time we discuss this issue in a very civilized manner amongst friends, to go and explore one more location. “Let’s walk for a bit more and see what’s around the other side of the street” I keep saying. My shooting buddy keeps reminding me, as he always does, that we have been up for the last 19 hours and have walked for almost a million miles (ok, a bit of exaggerattion here, but you get the idea). Well, after having spending 2 precious minutes discussing this issue and contemplating how many other people are awake this time of night in Beijing (almost nobody), guess who always wins (yeah yeah yeah – I know it’s not about winning… hummmm).

The southern entrance to Behai Park is situated a fair distance away from the northern entrance to the Forbidden City (if I recall my bearings correctly), and yes it seemed like a million mles away, but it was all worth it.

This image is of many lanterns that adorn the long pathway leading to the temple atop the steep hill. We never made it to the top as that section of the park was closed at night.

We ended up back at our hotel room at about 3 am after spending almost 1 hour looking for a cab! And that’s the joy of photogrpahy in a foreign city.

One last comment – yes, my buddy and I are still friends.
