I don’t really know what possessed me to take this shot. Must have been at least 1:00 in the morning, returning back to my hotel room in Beijing after a very long day of shooting. Waiting for the subway to arrive (which is extremely punctual in Beijing), I noticed how clean and immaculate everything around me. I also noticed how still everything around me was, including those who were waiting with me. I just had to do it! I knew I would miss the train, but I also knew that there was another one coming in exactly 7 minutes!

By the way, this is how most of their subway stations look; clean and shiny (not just at 1:00 am), and painted with subtle colours. Difference is, at 1:00 am there are only those hard working people that perhaps are either going to work or coming back from work (and there aren’t too many of those), and then there are those idiots who have been up for the last 19 hours walking all over the city trying to capture all that we can then travellng back to our hotel rooms with cameras and tripods in hand only to get up again in about 4 hours and do it all over again for the next 10 days!

Since joining RB I’ve greatly enjoyed being part of a lovely community of wonderful people. I’ve also made some new friends that I hope to meet one day in person. I have several passions/hobbies/professions (music, photography, martial arts & yes environmental engineering to name a few)! I am very blessed being able to work in all of these. Please feel free to visit & provide honest opinion on my photos as I am still learning (a day that goes by without learning anything is a wasted day).

Beautiful and a stunning capture, I love the way the top and bottom meet in the middle, such a brilliant photo..i love the way everything comes together at the point of no return..and the cleanliness is poignant in this photo…well done!!!! I love your photography~!

  • Thanks a million million Brenda. This is actually one of those pics where you don’t really know whether you’re supposed to shoot or not. After all, it is a public place in Beijing and security is (was on that day) all over the place. The last thing I wanted is for my camera to get confiscated! But, being the nutso I am, I decided to take a chance. And here is the result. Glad you like this one too.

Oh my goodness…you sound just like me…i have to chuckle, for i would have done the same thing, hoping that i would not get caught!!! For if my camera was confiscated, my heart would break!!!! My life and my camera are one….and it travels with me where ever i go…it is near by, just incase i see that “fabulous one of a kind, one in a million shot”!!! So i understand what you have said here!!!!

  • I’m glad you and I feel the same about our cameras! It’s a strange kind of a relationship only true photographers can understand.
