Village in a still life
At the end of 2007 I had visited MELGHAT. A land rich of forests and wild life had been an unforgettable experience. Nature has offered protection to MELGHAT in the form of a rugged topography with only a few entry points. More than 700 naturalised plant species have been enlisted in the Flora of MELGHAT.
Korku is a little-known tribe of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra in India. At the end of the 20th century, they numbered about 560,000. However, poverty and restricted use of ancestral land due to government attempts to save the Bengal tiger have led to a serious problem of malnutrition and starvation among the Korku.
Our aim was to understand the ground reality in the first visit. This photograph is presented for basic understanding of the rich nature of MELGHAT and inspire peoples to extend their hand. Along with the survival of Tiger, in the food chain, survival of man is also important.
I shot this photograph, when I visited one of the villages in MELGHAT & we were about to return in the mid afternoon. Hope every one will enjoy it.

I too, enjoyed the commentary Prasad. The story gives the shot ameaning distinguising it from another candid street shot.
Thanks for sharing.

Along with the survival of Tiger, in the food chain, survival of man is also important.
Too right! Something I tried to explain to Greenpeace about the Alaskan Natives and their whale hunting, too. Besides, it is very seldom the Natives, of anywhere, that are the problem. It’s the idiots who move in to build factories, the tourists, the people who forget how to live with the land and be thankful for it, that cause the most damage to lands and animals who live on them.
This is a nice photo .. gives much to think about.

It was really an inspiring visit to Melghat, Phil. We were almost cut off from the main stream life for a day or two. Very close to nature. Thanks for your kind words and visit my friend.

Thank you so much Arletta. It’s true, and I do agree with you. But the quest is still unresolved. Hope with time, we – humans – will LEARN. That’s what we can await & expect.

Thank you, Deb. Many times, whenever I try to find some inspiration, I always recall my visit to Melghat. Such a difficult condition to survive. My friend who is working there has rich of experience that will shake every one here, down to earth. But still LIFE survives and goes on…......
