WOW! What an incredible shot Rose. When I lived in Florida, I always enjoyed the anhinga. They are one of the few water birds that are too heavy to fly when their wings are wet, so they will sit with their wings spread to dry them. They are so unusual looking. I love the perspective in this. Great one Rosie. (I couldn’t open this to view yesterday, but today….no problem. Different computer. I wish the bubble would get this glitch figured out.)
PrairieRose replied
Hi Pam!
THANKS HEAPS for your awesome comment my beautiful Friend…....yeah, I gave up on the Bubble last night, I’m thinking the entire site is ready to crash….....LOL!!
As you know, these birds are plentiful in Florida….....I always found them very interesting…....so animated and it’s really cool watching them swim under water…..........I think they are from another era going way back in time…..........

This is a really great catch PrairieRose…anhinga’s do all sorts of strange contortions but this is the best I have seen – arcing with the stone is fantastic – was it about to fly, dive in the water, or just showing off?
One in particular by my office lake sleeps with its head turned back under the wings, looks like a bird with no head!
I have hunderds of anhinga shots but nothing like this…thanks for sharing…
PrairieRose replied
Geez dear Sailor, what a lovely comment…..I really mean that….......I’m just gushing with joy….......this gal was ready for take off…....in fact, I have the whole series of her moving, getting ready for flight….......I absolutely agree with you that these birds are fascinating to watch and photograph…....they are very animated…....I actually love watching them too….......I only wish the background could have been more colourful in the shot….....THANKS HEAPS for your generous and most insightful comment…...........Hugs, Rosie xxx

Not a species I’ve heard of before Rosie but easy to appreciate the snake bird name with the form of it’s neck as it is ready to strike at a passing meal below, a great pose and image that I find particularly interesting as a bird lover who hadn’t heard of the species,
Regards, Rod.

Wonderfully done! Anhingas pose readily but are very difficult to capture well – they are muted in color and fuzzy – sort of inherently blurry! But this is one of the best I’ve seen. Great work! Check out a couple anhinga pix of mine.
PrairieRose replied
Hello Charlie! Thanks a million for your generous comment! You are sooooooo kind…...Sincerely, Rose :)))
