This was a fun piece where I was able to mix some interesting purples for the flowers. I found these growing in the yard of a good friend of mine after he purchased his new home and thought they would make an interesting painting. I had a terrible time trying to get the colors to scan correctly from the original piece so I had to resort to using my camera and daylight bulbs which is much more effort for me and reduces the size of the available prints. The original is 14″×10.25″ and is painted with Rublev, Sennelier, Daniel Smith, and Winsor & Newton watercolor paints on Sennelier 140# cold-pressed paper.
This beautiful painting reminds me of stained glass. The various greens, both the overall color effect and the mingling of color to get them, is interesting to me because I like to paint plants. Purples are really difficult to photograph.
Thank you Pauline! There is a certain dynamic effect that seems to get lost in the digitization process that I really wish could come through on screen. Oh well, I can only hope to get as close as possible.
The colors here are just perfect & they pop right off the page! Nice work, Ken!
Thank you Marsha! This is one of those where it was very necessary for the proper tonality of the flowers to come through and the scanner just was not cutting it so I had to resort to photography!
Love that zingy egg yolk yellow/purple combo, Ken! I like the simplicity of the blocks of colour too…eye catching!
Thank you Ann! I tried not to complicate this one too much so I left out any semblance of variegation in the leaves and left the petals fairly minimalistic. It was a fun piece. It actually sold an hour after I posted it so the original is now sold, matted, framed, and delivered to its new owner. I was happy!
