I began by doing a quick sketch of the three flowers in this piece and then completely drew a blank as to how to proceed from that point. I revisited the piece the next evening and decided I was just going to grab the brush and go for it. The piece is painted with Winsor & Newton and Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paints on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The interaction between this particular paint and paper really creates some interesting textures and brush strokes.
Sometimes, Ken, it’s just so much fun to paint with wild abandon! I like this….it’s such a warm & cheery piece. Doesn’t it make a lovely greeting card??!!

It’s fresh and the colors are so light and cheerful!
Thank you very much! I wanted something a bit brighter than what I had been doing previously.

This is lovely Ken, the textured background is such a nice contrast to the bright flowers.
Thank you Diane!

Another superb floral work Ken. Congrats on the feature.
Thanks Ian! Stylistically different for me but a fun experiment nonetheless!
