Point Defiance Garden Flower by

I think this might be a dahlia variety as I found it in the Point Defiance Dahlia Garden in Tacoma, Washington. There were many other flowers besides dahlias and roses, however so I am not sure. I was amazed at its beautiful color however. The original is 10″×13.5″ in size and is painted with a combination of Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint, Daniel Smith watercolor paint, and Winsor & Newton watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The coarse paper really helped created an interesting textural background for this piece.

Gorgeous, Ken. Love the wet in wet in the petals and the wonderful look of light and transparency.

  • Thank you so much! I am trying to make each in this series slightly different than the rest so they are all individual works! Fun!
