These white roses are a climbing variety that are growing in an out-of-control manner around my house. This particular bunch was hanging over and sitting on my porch just begging me to paint them. I obviously used negative painting techniques to create them (hopefully in a positive manner). The background is purely Daniel Smith Bronzite watercolor paint while the rest of the subject uses Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint. The Bronzite watercolor paint really settles into the coarse grained Arches 140# cold-pressed watercolor paper I used and has glistening effect due to the metal particulate that sparkles in the paint. The original is 10.25″×14″ in size.
Very nice drawing and shading. Love the sediment in your colors.
Thank you very much! “Sediment” is the perfect term. I don’t know why I never thought of that. Some of these paints have the consistency of sand on the palette and I love the way that translates to the paper!

How wonderful that something so beautiful grows out of control at your place Ken…Just goes to show it must like the spot…Again, love the strong shadows and the depiction of light and the subdued palette…well done…Ange
Thanks Ange! I appreciate your encouragement and support!
This is so beautifully & delicately done. I think roses are the hardest flowers to do – especially white ones & you’ve tackled it with great finesse. PERFECT!!!
Thanks Marsha! I just keep hammering away at these florals and hope I will eventually learn their secret!
As Marsha said… not the easiest flowers to paint never mind the colour. You have brought this to life with the gorgeous shadows and subtle yellows. Truly beautiful!
Thanks Debbie! For some reason I had a clear vision of where I wanted this one go right from the start. Oddly, it took a couple hours less to paint than many of my other pieces but I definitely struggled with the values more. I wish some of the more subtle details would have come through better in the digitization process.

so pretty and delicate Ken…a lovely watercolour and can smell the perfume from here :-)
Thanks Linda! Quite a few of the watercolor’s subtleties got lost in the scanning process but oh well!

This is developing into a lovely series. The shadows continue to make your florals special.
Thanks Jenny!

Nicely-done Ken. I can’t do flowers at all. Roses must be especially hard.
Thanks Ian! I am really struggling with the floral stuff but I keep plugging along!
