Painted with a combination of 18th century reproduction watercolor paint and Winsor and Newton Permanent Rose on Arches 140# paper, these lilac blossoms have a strange mesmerizing effect. I struggled a bit with this piece and ended up cropping it down so the original is only 5.5″ × 6.75″ in size. The coarsely grained pigmented paint almost had too much texture to work with for such a delicate subject.
Thanks Corinne! I had a lot of fun with this one and learned a lot. I used my standard palette but added some Winsor And Newton permanent rose to mix some purples!
Beautiful painting – The crop looks good, and the colors are fresh.
Thanks Lora! I had it quite a bit larger but I think I had bitten off a bit more than I could chew as an experiment so I cropped it and focused on a smaller area! I have to do what I can to keep it interesting for myself!
