I stepped out of my comfort zone to paint an arrangement of flowers for Mother’s Day. Although I am generally not a floral painter, I had an amazing amount of fun putting this one together. The original is 10.25″×14″ in size and is painted with a combination of 18th century reproduction watercolor paint, Daniel Smith watercolor paint, and Winsor and Newton watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. I like the way the combination of paint and paper created interesting background textures.
Wow, all this time you’ve been holding out on us. These are soooooo beautiful!! Would like to see you do more of these.
Thanks Marsha! You are too kind. I do plan on trying a couple more in order to get a bit better at achieving the subtle shading, etc… in flower petals. After working on this one, I have a new found respect for floral painters!
Beautiful rendition, Ken. The painting has great sensitivity and delicateness – as if you’ve been doing florals for quite some time. I think the genre has your name all over it.
Thanks a lot! That means a lot coming from an artist of your talent.

Thanks Kamal! My floral painting techniques need a bit more refinement still but I had a lot of fun with this one!
