I don’t know why I have always wanted to paint a case latch but I finally found a suitable candidate. This one is from a very old trumpet case so it immediately appealed to me. I painted this with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The texture of the paper and these unique paints create some amazing textures in the piece. The original is 14″×10.25″ in size.

I am a still-life and floral watercolor artist based in the Tacoma, Washington USA area. My work can be found in collections throughout the world as well as on the set of ABC Studio’s television series, “Desperate Housewives.”

Reall,y really, cool, Ken… I love the soft almost-not-there pinpoint of light in the shadow of the keyhole…. really, great stuff

  • I am glad you noticed that Maureen! I wasn’t sure how subtle to make it and thought I might have made it too hidden.

  • Yes, very unusual subject matter. I think my next piece is going deviate a bit less from the mainstream. Thanks for stopping by!
