My neighbor let me photograph this old hook to paint. Neither of us know what its true purpose was or if people currently use these. We liked the old worn surfaces. I didn’t have much time to paint so I only did it in a 4″ × 6″ format. I originally put it on a grey concrete background but didn’t like the contrast so I did a red glaze over the top which gave the piece a slightly macabre vibe. It is painted with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The paper texture coupled with the heavy grained paint makes for some nice metal textures.
