Red Door and Old Lock by Ken Powers

I liked the interaction between the lock, latch, and red door in this image. I had a slightly more difficult time drawing the lock and the eyelet it passes through to appear correctly in the composition but it worked out just fine. The work is painted with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The interaction of the course grained pigments with the rough Arches paper helps to bring the piece to life with texture. The original work is 7″×5″ in size.

Congratulations on your win! This painting was a shoe-in for locked.

  • Just 10th place I am afraid but the rest of the pieces in the top 10 were photographs so I feel pretty special to have placed.
