Garage Lock Number One by

This lock is a heavily used part of my 1917 garage. The building is nearly falling over and I don’t know why I lock it at all. Someday I will tear it down but for now it is an excellent subject for my series of padlock paintings. It was painted using Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The paper and paint interact to create excellent textures. The original piece is 5″×7″ in size.

Featured in Old & Rusty group in September 2009.

This one is wonderful….I have done one or two padlocks too…keys as well

  • I am pretty much done with this series of lock paintings but I just can’t help painting another if I run across another one that catches my fancy.

I paint in series too…right now it’s portraits in a collection called Significant Faces of anonymous women….

  • I saw your Significant Faces series and love it. I am feeling a bit more eclectic lately so there is no telling what might fall under the brush next.

    Ken, great work.

  • Thanks Gary! This one is a little looser than some of the others in the series.
