Old Hook

My neighbor let me photograph this old hook to paint. Neither of us know what its true purpose was or if people currently use these. We liked the old worn surfaces. I didn’t have much time to paint so I only did it in a 4” x 6” format. I originally put it on a grey concrete background but didn’t like the contrast so I did a red glaze over the top which gave the piece a slightly macabre vibe. It is painted with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The paper texture coupled with the heavy grained paint makes for some nice metal textures.
