Fork Lightning near Port Germain

I took these photos of lightning coming over Spencer Gulf towards Port Germain, South Australia, on Saturday night (24th/10/09) from Hancocks Lookout near Wilmington. It was a spectacular light show with many bolts hitting the hills and sea and went on for a few hours. These are by far the best lightning shots I’ve taken!

Nikon D80, 18-135mm lens, 20sec – 1min exposures

Great work, Wayne. Nice pulsing CG (cloud to ground) of which there were many that night. Certainly was an awesome evening for sparkies and almost as good as February 2007.

Hi. Thanks. Yes it was a good display – one of the best I’ve seen. It was even better from my vantage point high up on the hill and gave some good angles for seeing where it struck.
I didn’t even know storms were forecast too! So it was a good couple of hours watching them.
I see you got some great shots too – maybe the same strikes as mine! I’ve got about 12 more good ones to post so keep looking! :-)
