Château de Pau, Béarn region, S.W. France by

The inner courtyard of the chateau, by a beautiful summer day.

This chateau is located in the centre of Pau.
King Henri IV of France and Navarre was born here on December 13, 1553.
It was once used by Napoleon as a holiday home during his period of power.

The castle is listed as a Monument Historique since 1840 and nowadays contains a beautiful collection of tapestries.

What a stunning shot. I love these old chateaux!

  • It’s a strange chateau in the way it’s got several styles. This particular one is Renaissance but the very beginning of the construction on the other side facing the garden dates from the feodal period (XII-XIIIth century) with a huge tower – like in a chateau-fort – is built in red bricks….It’s a strange opposition of styles as I said.
    Thanks Fran
