Château de Pau (SW France)
Famed as the birthplace of Henri IV, king of France and the Navarre, the Chateau de Pau also played an important role of fortress under Gaston Febus (Gaston III was the 11th count of Foix and viscount of Béarn 1343-1391, he claimed Béarn as an independent fief with its chief seat his stringhold at Pau, a site that had been fortified by the 11th century which was later made the official capital of Béarn province in 1464 of Foix-Béarn) and residence to the royal families of the Renaissance.
The tapestry, towers, gardens and donjons mark the presence of a history filled with gallantry, fame and courage.

I know this place! What a lovely night shot!
Corinne Pouzet replied
Yes, sure Alison, you obviously know this place about 20 km or so from Monein !
Coming from you I really do appreciate your comment…

Ooooh you live near a real castle???? Great shot! xx
Corinne Pouzet replied
This real castle is the one of our Henri the fourth who was stabbed in 1640. He had the bad idea of getting married with Catherine de Medicis’s daughter Margot, who was all but an angel !!
Anyway, Pau is about 20 km from the little town where I live. We often go for shopping, having a good lunch or just sipping a coffee not far away from the Château ….

Ooooooh again. I read a book many years ago about Catherine de Medici and her Henri (and his mistresses) it made such an impression on me I can still remember it 30 years later! Bit dangerous being married to a Medici!

Stunning!!
I have tried to find the town but to no avail – where abouts is it in relation to the Poitou Charente please?? We are always looking for places to visit – most are about an hours to 2 hours away but if this is in the SW then maybe it is near to us!!
Corinne Pouzet replied
Hi Pam ! thanks for dropping by.
This pic is located in Pau : it’s the chateau de Pau and was the home town of Henri IV.
Pau is about halfway from Spain (San Sebastian, Basque region) and the Atlantic Coast (Hossegor in the Landes region).
Hope you can spot the place on a map now.
Cheers !
