On the joy of little space

Oh I am a Council worker
At my desk I’m sat
My fellows sit to both sides
To my front and to my back
Space is at a premium
In this little spot
So me and fellow inmates
Make the most of what we’ve got

There’s stuff beneath the tables

And resting on the chairs
There is little space to work now
But no one seems to care
I have the head phones ready
The blinkers and false walls
So I don’t see my neighbour
When they take a call

I know that it is temp’ry
At least that what I’ve heard
But temp’ry in a council
Is a very ‘open’ word

The upside is that we all get on
Well at the moment this is true
But what it’ll be like
When there is no space for flight
It’s up to me and you

Advisors will be close to hand
And easily in reach
But so will listeners in
Whenever you want to speak

Each mutter that you murmur
Will fill this tiny void
I wonder who it will be
To be the first to get annoyed

Short of space
Can mean short of temper
That of patience too
Now we can all sympathise
With the animals in the Zoo
