Steamboat Rock

Dave Davis

Auburn, United States

Artist's Description

This was taken on the trail up to Steamboat Rock, which is a large lava formation in the middle of the Grand Coulee in eastern Washington State, U. S., A. A coulee is a river channel that was carved out during prehistoric times when the glacial ice melted. Steamboat Rock is near Banks Lake, and there’s a state park at its base. The vertical fractures in the lava occurred when the lava cooled.
